The GRTiQ 10: Steve Kim (Ep. 192)

In a recent GRTiQ Podcast episode, Steve (Namwoong) Kim shared his profound thoughts and unique perspectives during the GRTiQ 10 segment. His answers provided a fascinating glimpse into his philosophical outlook on life and his innovative approach to business.

Steve credited For a New Liberty by Murray Rothbard as the most impactful book he’s ever read. This seminal work on libertarianism introduced him to the idea of a society without government, challenging his preconceived notions and ultimately drawing him toward blockchain technology. For movies, Steve chose The Dark Knight, praising it for its philosophical depth and its exploration of ideological and psychological conflicts. He highlighted Batman as a reflection of libertarian values, emphasizing the need for heroes even in decentralized systems. Other favorites included Interstellar and Dunkirk, further underscoring his admiration for Christopher Nolan’s thought-provoking storytelling.

When it comes to music, Steve selected Maroon 5’s Songs About Jane, calling it a masterpiece with enduring appeal. He shared his love for this album, which he continues to enjoy on a weekly basis.

The best advice Steve ever received came from the philosopher Nietzsche, who offered powerful insights on embracing life despite its hardships. Nietzsche’s thoughts on the inevitability of death encouraged Steve to live fully and resist the urge to succumb to despair. This advice became a cornerstone of his resilience during challenging times.

Steve shared a counterintuitive lesson: avoid following the advice of successful people. He emphasized that success requires pioneering your own path rather than mimicking others. In his view, there’s no universal formula for entrepreneurship; each individual must find their unique way forward.

For a life hack, Steve championed meditation as a means to calm the mind and solve problems. He described how meditation helps him refocus and address challenges with clarity, noting that many issues stem from internal states of mind.

The thing that most excites me about the future of web3 is… “Interoperability. The fragmented state of blockchains needs to evolve into a seamless, interconnected system for global scalability and mass adoption.”
