The GRTiQ 10: Red Sheehan (Ep. 162)

In a recent episode of the GRTiQ Podcast, Red Sheehan shared some fascinating insights during the GRTiQ 10 segment, offering listeners a glimpse into his thoughts and experiences.

When asked about the book that has had the most impact on his life, Red highlighted “Thinking, Fast and Slow” by Daniel Kahneman. This book sparked his interest in cognitive biases and the differences between the subconscious and conscious brain, which he found incredibly cool and enlightening.

For a movie recommendation, especially for those in the crypto industry, Red suggested “The Big Short.”

Regarding music, if he could only listen to one album for the rest of his life, Red would choose “Discovery” by Daft Punk.

The best advice Red ever received was, “Good things do not come to those who wait. Good things come to those who go and get them.” He also mentioned a more assertive version of this advice, “Sometimes you got to be an asshole,” emphasizing the importance of taking initiative.

One key lesson Red has learned in life is the concept that “you can be right or you can win, but you can’t always have both.” This idea falls into the category of choosing between being correct or achieving your end goal.

For a practical life hack, Red shared his philosophy of “create more than you consume.” Whether it’s teaching, writing code, or organizing meetups, contributing and creating will take you much further than merely participating.

In the final segment, Red completed three sentences:

  1. The thing that most excites him about web3 is social coordination.
  2. If you’re on X (formerly known as Twitter), he didn’t recommend following any specific person or group. Instead, he emphasized being a fan of ideas rather than people or companies.
  3. He is happiest when he is busy, comparing himself to a Border Collie that loves having a lot to do.
