The GRTiQ 10: John Paller (Ep. 174)

In a recent episode of the GRTiQ Podcast, John Paller, founder of Opolis and co-founder of ETHDenver, shared his thoughts and experiences during the GRTiQ 10 segment. Here are the highlights of his responses.

When asked about the book or article that had the most impact on his life, John mentioned his interest in ancient texts and timeless principles, specifically citing “The Gnostic Bible” and “Meditations” by Marcus Aurelius. He values these works for their exploration of principles that remain relevant across time.

For a movie recommendation, John highlighted “Interstellar” for its storytelling, production quality, and underlying themes of consciousness. He also mentioned the metaphorical significance of “The Matrix” and the lessons embedded in “Star Wars.”

If he could only listen to one music album for the rest of his life, John would choose between Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon,” Dave Matthews’ “Under the Table and Dreaming,” and G Love & Special Sauce’s “Lemonade.”

The best advice John ever received was simply to “shut the fuck up and listen more.” This straightforward yet impactful advice has guided his interactions and decision-making.

One unique insight John shared is the importance of understanding the purity of giving and generosity. He emphasized that true giving should be free of expectations and ulterior motives, a subtlety often overlooked.

John’s best life hack is understanding the law of reciprocity and how it works, which has significantly shaped his approach to relationships and interactions.

Based on his own experiences, John believes that curiosity is the key characteristic that explains how people find success in life. He advocates for a personal exploration journey to identify and express one’s unique gifts and talents.

In the final three questions, John completed the sentences as follows:

  1. The thing that most excites him about web3 is the realization of decentralization in our commercial lives.
  2. On X (formerly Twitter), he suggested following Bobby Kennedy Jr. for his authenticity and Alaji for his analytical insights. He also mentioned the importance of following people with dissenting views for broader learning.
  3. He is happiest when he is breathing, emphasizing the importance of being present and content in every moment.
