The GRTiQ 10 is a weekly Q&A segment that wraps up every episode of the GRTiQ Podcast, offering listeners a fun and personal look at each guest. Through ten thoughtfully crafted questions, guests reveal their favorite books, music, and life hacks, share impactful advice, and reflect on their vision for the future. Designed to uncover what inspires and motivates them, the GRTiQ 10 provides practical takeaways and fosters a deeper connection between listeners and guests.
In a recent GRTiQ Podcast episode, Hyung-Kyu Choi joined the GRTiQ 10 segment, sharing insights into his life, inspirations, and philosophies that guide his work and personal endeavors.
Hyung-Kyu attributed much of his early fascination with technology to the novels Foundation by Isaac Asimov and Contact by Carl Sagan. Foundation shaped his views on the risks of advanced technology being lost to future generations, a perspective he connects to the blockchain industry. Contact introduced him to the idea that some phenomena defy explanation, a humbling lesson for a tech enthusiast. For a movie recommendation, Hyung-Kyu selected Forrest Gump, praising its message of perseverance and the importance of consistency in overcoming challenges.
When asked about music, Hyung-Kyu shared two favorite albums: the classic compilation Now 2, which brings back memories of his youth, and Exhibition by Team Exhibition, a nostalgic pick from the Korean music scene of the ’90s. These albums reflect his love for music that spans genres and evokes meaningful memories.
The best advice Hyung-Kyu received was, “Never say never.” This mindset encouraged him to pursue seemingly impossible tasks, leading him to tackle complex problems in blockchain technology. He also shared a life lesson about the importance of avoiding regret by continuing to work on unresolved problems, even after compromises have been made.
For a life hack, Hyung-Kyu revealed his habit of rewatching favorite movies to refresh his mind during periods of low productivity. Short films, in particular, allow him to take a brief mental break and return to work rejuvenated. When reflecting on success, he emphasized the value of consistency, noting that even the most talented individuals need perseverance to achieve lasting results.
The thing that most excites me about the future of AI is… “Opening possibilities for humans to transcend time limitations, enabling us to achieve more within the same 24 hours.”
If you’re on X (formerly Twitter), you should be following… “Elon Musk, as he is fully exploring the platform’s potential.”
I’m happiest when… “My children are happy, discovering new things, and growing in their understanding of the world.”
