The GRTiQ 10: Anirudh Patel (Ep. 144)

During a recent GRTiQ Podcast, Anirudh Patel provided listeners with a glimpse into his perspectives on life, personal influences, and insights that shape his daily decisions. The GRTiQ 10 is a weekly segment diving into the personal inspirations, influences, and insights of our guests, aiming to inspire listeners to discover new perspectives, embrace novel experiences, or achieve more in their lives.

Anirudh began by sharing the books that have had the most impact on his life. Among these, the works of Peter Singer stand out. He appreciates Singer’s logical approach to ethics, particularly in the book “The Life You Can Save.” This book challenges readers to reconsider their values and actions through thought-provoking scenarios, such as the moral obligation to help those in need versus personal expenditures. This reflective process has significantly influenced Anirudh’s way of thinking and acting.

When it comes to movies and TV shows, Anirudh admitted to having a poor memory for such media but recommended “Rocket Boys,” a Hindi language web series that tells the story of the founders of India’s nuclear and space programs. He finds the series engaging and informative, although he has yet to watch the second season.

Musically, Anirudh has eclectic tastes but mentioned a jazz album he was listening to before the interview: “We Like It Here” by Snarky Puppy. He enjoys the improvisational elements and the way the musicians incorporate quotes from famous songs, making it a fun and dynamic listening experience.

The best advice Anirudh ever received was to “always assume positive intent.” This principle helps foster understanding and cooperation, both in personal and professional interactions.

Anirudh shared a significant insight about the importance of saying sorry without making excuses. This simple act of acknowledging mistakes and taking responsibility is crucial for personal growth and maintaining healthy relationships.

A valuable life hack Anirudh discovered is the practice of reflecting on his values and aligning them with his actions, inspired by Peter Singer’s philosophy. This ongoing self-examination ensures that his actions are consistent with his beliefs, leading to a more intentional and fulfilling life.

Reflecting on success, Anirudh believes that enjoying the process rather than fixating on goals is key. He emphasizes the importance of not comparing oneself to others and finding satisfaction in the journey itself. This mindset aligns with his research-oriented approach, where the process of discovery is as important as the outcomes.

Anirudh expressed his excitement about web3, particularly its potential to improve consumers’ lives through more efficient marketplaces. This innovative technology promises to create fairer and more transparent economic systems.

For social media followers, Anirudh recommended following The Graph, as he is not active on Twitter himself.

Finally, Anirudh shared that his happiest moments are when he is working on something or doing something that no one else has done before. As a researcher at heart, the thrill of discovery and innovation brings him immense joy.
