The GRTiQ 10: Tegan Kline (Ep. 142)

During a recent GRTiQ Podcast, Tegan Kline provided listeners with a glimpse into her perspectives on life, personal influences, and insights that shape her daily decisions. The GRTiQ 10 is a weekly segment diving into the personal inspirations, influences, and insights of our guests, aiming to inspire listeners to discover new perspectives, embrace novel experiences, or achieve more in their lives.

Tegan began by sharing the books that had the most impact on her life, each marking different stages of her journey. As a young reader in Ohio, Marilyn Manson’s “Long Hard Road Out of Hell” resonated with her, particularly because Manson is also from Ohio. When she moved to New York City, “The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho became her guide to understanding the power of mindset and success. Later, as a manager at Edge & Node, she turned to “Trillion Dollar Coach” by Bill Campbell, which helped her become a better leader by adopting Bill’s coaching style, known for shaping great leaders in web2. Lastly, “Unconscious Business” by Fred Kofman influenced her deeply about values, leading to Fred becoming her mentor and coach.

For movie recommendations, Tegan’s favorite is “Stand By Me,” a coming-of-age story by Stephen King. She considers it a perfect blend of nostalgia and life lessons, making it her all-time favorite film.

Musically, Tegan’s preferences have evolved. While she might have once chosen Marilyn Manson, she now leans towards Buddy Holly for his uplifting tunes. Buddy Holly’s music brings a cheerful vibe, aligning with her current tastes.

The best advice Tegan ever received was from her directors at Barclays, who told her not to worry about things she can’t control, like earthquakes. This advice has shaped her approach to fear and worry, teaching her to focus on what she can control and not to waste energy on improbable fears.

Tegan shared a significant insight about the importance of mental health and self-improvement. She emphasized that ongoing self-work and healing are crucial for success. Without it, fears and insecurities can prevent individuals from bringing on talented people, ultimately hindering their mission. She also touched on the idea that the Federal Reserve plays a critical but often misunderstood role in economic challenges, a perspective she believes is underappreciated.

A notable life hack Tegan discovered is the value of time blocking and delegation. By scheduling key activities and delegating weaknesses, she enhances her productivity and focuses on her strengths. This approach, along with hiring supportive team members like Caroline, has greatly improved her efficiency.

Reflecting on success, Tegan believes that making decisions quickly is vital. She highlighted the importance of not overthinking and being ready to pivot based on new information. Her decision to leave Wall Street for the crypto world exemplifies this mindset, showcasing her ability to take bold steps toward her goals.

Tegan expressed her excitement about web3, particularly the potential to remove centralized choke points and prevent corruption on the internet. This vision aligns with her commitment to a more decentralized and transparent digital landscape.

For social media followers, Tegan recommended several influential figures in the crypto space, including Eric Vorhees, Sam Williams, Eva Beylin, and Vitalik Buterin, along with others who provide valuable insights and updates.

Finally, Tegan shared that her happiest moments are when she is educating others about The Graph and empowering her team and the ecosystem. This passion for education and empowerment drives her work and fulfillment.
